she's had a concussion recently and the headgear is strictly for protection..similiar to Petr Cech. He wears his in training as well.

my main question is why, for a practice, is she wearing headgear? I personally, prefer shorts sleeves and shorts, and i understand all goalkeepers have their preferences but hte headgea was something i didnt really understand.

Mark has different physical attributes than Carly....it's tough to take the two players and compare them. Although i'm sure Carly will use the comment as motivation.

you will be able to pick up the ball without losing any advantage and you will find yourself onto your feet quicker than if your body continued to face the field the whole time. You notice that there are dives where she's not carrying a lot of speed, and she does not turn away from the field. It all depends on the speed your body is carrying. This technique is taught at a very early age in europe and is a must for high level goalkeepers there...Kahn, Frey, Gomes, Almunia, James are examples.

wrong. When you are carrying a lot of speed through your dive, you will need to roll out of your dive so the body (shoulders and hips) don't absorb all of the pounding on the ground. This speed through your dive will naturally carry you around into a position where you are back to your feet and ready to move again. It is true that this will cause the head to turn away for a couple thousandths of a second, however, by turning your head beck to the field of play before you're on you feet - more
