Furniture Staining 101

Back

Part two of my double dresser project. In part one, I chemically stripped my fleamarket dresser down to the bare wood and make a few minor repairs to the drawers. In this video, I used a colored stain (white)whitewashing, sanding, stenciling and varnishing to get the result you see here. If you have a valuable antique, don't stencil, it lowers the value. I chose to stencil because I have enough plain furniture in my house. I stenciled with a pattern, then connected all the gaps by painting over with a loaded round brush. It's a busy pattern, so I decided to leave the top and base plain. I changed out the brass hardware with glass knobs. It's my first furniture re-finishing project, and I'm very happy with it. I guess Christopher Lowell was right, I can do it! I have an old bookcase to do next, which should be much easier (and faster) to finish.
